RationalPlan Project Management Software 3.15.7 Email Integration With Yahoo, Hotmail, Live

Stand By Soft has released RationalPlan 3.15.7, a powerful project management software application developed to assist project managers in creating plans, tracking progress, allocating resources, managing budgets and analyzing workload. The new version comes with email integration with Yahoo, Hotmail, Live, added quantity column in assignment table, it remembers last used time scale, added predecessors end date and successors start date columns and many more enhancements.

Starting with this version managers can send emails to resources with their assignments not only through private email servers or GMail server but also through the well known Yahoo, Hotmail and Live platforms.

The assignments table from the task details panel also got richer with a quantity column needed for material resources.

At user requests RationalPlan now remembers the time scale used in each view on the graphical chart. Project managers have different types of projects: some spreading on a smaller time range (days/hours) and other complex projects that span over several years/months. This way based on the usual project type the manager no longer has to zoom in/out each time he starts the application.

By adding the predecessors end date and successors start date columns in the predecessors and successors table respectively, project managers have a better insight over the project schedule. Now they can see easier how a given task can influence its predecessors or successors and indirectly the project plan and can take better decisions related to the duration and work of that task: how many resources to allocate, whether it is necessary to have those resources work overtime or not depending on whetter the critical path is broken or not, etc.

Several other minor improvements where made and bug fixes where fixes: interface related issues, localization issues and others.

RationalPlan Project Management Software 3.15.4 Increased Execution Speed And More Task Types

Stand By Soft has released RationalPlan 3.15.4, a strong project management software application developed to assist project managers in creating plans, tracking progress, allocating resources, managing budgets and analyzing workload. The new version comes with a significant increase in its execution speed, more task types, silent install possibility on Windows and some more interface improvements.

RationalPlan added more task types. Until now users could handle tasks that have only fixed units for the assigned resources. This means that once resources were assigned to tasks with a certain amount of units these units were fixed that is do not change on other task changes like duration or work. The functionality was like this: changing task duration resulted in keeping units fixed and adjusting task work; and the reverse changing task work resulted in keeping units fixed and adjusting task duration. With this new feature project managers have the possibility to automatically adjust the units when changing task duration and to keep the task work and the reverse keep the task duration when changing the task work. This feature is useful in the case the project manager assigns a resource on a task that does not performs a regular activity. The manager knows that that task requires “x” hours of work and that the duration is “y” days. In this case the application will automatically compute the needed unit.

The execution speed of RationalPlan was significantly increased. The application has a shorter start time and most of the actions take a lot less time. The most notable increase can be seen on actions that could trigger a reschedule on the current project: delete and paste tasks, duration or constraints changes, dependencies etc.

Starting with current version RationalPlan users can install the products silently that is without any user interaction. This could be useful for an easier deployment on multiple computers. Other changes to the interface of the application were done both for the Windows and the Mac OS X platform. The assignments email notification was also a bit improved. Now resources can see the percent completion of the assigned tasks and the full path of that task relative to the project for a better identification. Further more the project managers can use multiple email addresses when sending the assignments to resources. This is useful if you need to send an email copy to the resource supervisor.

RationalPlan Project Management Software 3.15 Improved Its Scheduling Mechanism

Stand By Soft has released RationalPlan 3.15, a strong project management software application developed to assist project managers in creating plans, tracking progress, allocating resources, managing budgets and analyzing workload. The new version comes with a major change in its planning and scheduling mechanism, an easier to use interface and some more useful features.

Important changes of this version:

Changed the scheduling mechanism such that it will allow users to have conflicts
Added shortcut icons for the guide when hidden
Copy/paste tasks with assigned resources
Added successors tab in task details view
Export more data to Excel

RationalPlan changed the scheduling mechanism. such that it will allow users to see the list of conflicts from a project. With this feature project managers have the possibility to allow temporary conflicts in the project. This is useful mainly when they want to have different project planning scenarios. The new algorithm is more flexible letting the manager choose the way he wants to handle a conflict or if he wants to keep that conflict from one reason or another. Conflicts are signaled on the Gantt chart and the managers can easily navigate through the list by selecting the desired conflict to handle it.

RationalPlan has a built in Project Guide to help managers take the best planning decisions. Once RationalPlan users become more familiar with the product this guide is less useful and can be hidden. Still there are certain views that can be accessed only from this guide. Hence for the case when the users hide this guide the developers of RationalPlan added some short cut icons for fast access to the hidden views.

With this version the cut/copy/paste actions for tasks where improved. RationalPlan is now able to keep tasks assignments when copying and then pasting them. In this way certain projects can be used as templates for new projects. The new projects will use the same resources as previous ones and this is a good thing because if the old projects where successfully completed then there are bigger chances for the new projects to succeed.

Managing task dependencies was never easier with RationalPlan. Now project managers can manage not only the list of predecessors for a task but also the list of successors. Now they can see for which activities a task is waiting for and also the tasks that depend on a certain task. This way the scheduling path of a project is easier to be managed.

More project data is now exported to Excel files. Some bug fixes where also treated in this version.

RationalPlan Project Management Software v3.14 Internationalization And Outlook Integration

Important changes of this version:

RationalPlan started it’s way to become an international product. Although for now only English language is supported soon enough there will be added other languages (Italian, French, German). This means that users from all around the world will be able to use the set of project management tools that RationalPlan offers in their own language.

Current version added Outlook integration for iCalendar .ics files when sending emails with assignments to resources. Now users can add Outlook to Apple iCal and Google Calendar list of clients that can open .ics files generated with RationalPlan. Still this feature is available only for VEVENT generated items and not for VTODO ones. This lack of functionality is the result of the fact that Outlook does not fully support the iCalendar protocol. More exactly Outlook does not support VTODO and VJOURNAL elements. This Outlook lack of compatibility with the iCalendar standard is a problem for many project management software packages available on the market but Microsoft seems to refuse to implement it even in Outlook 2007.

Task deadlines are easier to be managed starting with this version. Users can display them as columns in tasks table and view them also on Gantt chart. Hence delayed tasks are easier to detect and the project manager has more time available to solve them.

One other issue that was treated in this version is the file locking mechanism. RationalPlan uses a file lock system to avoid concurrent access conflicts from different users. But on certain network sharing protocols like Samba file locking mechanism is not supported. On these networks RationalPlan will still open files but without locking and is the users responsibility to manage concurrency.

The interface settings are now also kept for the “Risks” view. In addition to this the manager has the possibility to print the list of risks for a project.

The execution speed of the application was increased substantially on certain views like the “Resource Sheet” and “Task Sheet”. More changes were made for a better integration of RationalPlan with the Mac OS X platform. Also some important bug fixes are related to the import of MS Project files.

RationalPlan Project Management Software v3.13 Added SSL Support for Email

RationalPlan added SSL support for their assignments email notification tool. This means that users will benefit both from a secured connection to send email notifications and have the possibility to send emails without the need to maintain a SMTP server. More exactly this means that anyone can use RationalPlan to send emails to resources by using a free email server like the one provided by Google, the Gmail service. Hence all it is needed for one to use this feature is to create a free Google account and use it while establishing the email server settings in RationalPlan products. With this feature RationalPlan makes a step forward in enhancing it’s collaboration support for users.

More changes were made to the interface in order to make it easier to use, more suggestive or to better integrate with the platform specific look and feel. To be mentioned: on Mac OS X the table grid (alternating rows) is now extended over the charts, users have now the possibility to directly create different dependency types, project estimated start date can be shown on charts, and so on.

Also some important bug fixes are related to the import/export of MS Project files.
