Free Project Management Software on Linux Operating Systems

Starting with version 4.7 RationalPlan Single is distributed as freeware under all Linux operating systems. RationalPlan is a project management suite that puts the accent on productivity, ease of use and fast learning. The Single version can be seen as an alternative to Microsoft Project and the perfect solution for novice or accidental project managers.

RationalPlan products work on all major operating systems including Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. This is a major advantage as it offers cross platform compatibility. Linux platform was the last one that was adopted and presents the best integration with Ubuntu distributions (the products are even listed under the Ubuntu Apps Directory). Even more the company decided to offer the Single version as freeware on Linux. This decision is aiming to help the educational environment (students, teachers) and non-profit organizations.

The product uses Java framework and the recommended version for users is Java 1.7 from Oracle.

RationalPlan 4.8 – Hungarian Language Support, Ubuntu Adoption and Earned Value Analysis

Stand By Soft is pleased to announce the release of version 4.8 for RationalPlan project management suite. Current version comes with significant changes that will certainly help users: Hungarian language was added, Ubuntu integration, support for Earned Value Analysis, tasks distribution in Timesheet view, improved filtering and many other features.

RationalPlan is a project management suite that started as a desktop application designed to run on all major operating systems – Windows, Linux and Mac OS X – but it evolved into an embedded management system that is now available even as a cloud service both for individuals and for companies that need a distributed solution with concurrent access from multiple users.

Important changes for this version:

  • Added possibility for Earned Value Analysis – including CV, SV, CPI, SPI, ACWP, BCWP, BCWS related values
  • Better integration with Ubuntu
  • The products are now also available in Hungarian
  • Tomcat 8 compatibility for the On Premise solution
  • Added tasks distribution in Timesheet view
  • More work on filters
  • Also export data to Microsoft Project .xml format when working with the Server
  • Also export the reschedule date to .xls
  • Changes related to email notifications for resources
  • Added information about documents on tasks in the Info column
  • Compatibility with Google Calendar – updated libraries for iCalendar integration
  • Project import into Server should not be done if you do not have rights to add projects, resources, calendars and clients

At multiple users requests it was added the possibility to perform Earned Value Analysis. Users are now able to work with well known entities like CV, SV, CPI, SPI, ACWP, BCWP, BCWS. MOOS Project Viewer 3.0 – Support for Microsoft Project 2013 Files

Stand By Soft is pleased to announce the release of MOOS Project Viewer 3.0. Current version adds support for opening Microsoft Project 2013 files. At the same time the application now offers native integration with Ubuntu operating system.

After several months of development a major version was released that added support for reading Microsoft Project 2013 files. Project managers can now also open .mpp files generated with the latest version of  MS Project.

It is well known that Microsoft did not develop a viewer for its Microsoft Project product as it did for the rest of Microsoft Office suite. However certain companies have employees that only need to view files. In this case a logical and practical approach would be to reduce the costs by using an appropriate product. RationalPlan Project Management Software 4.2 – Increased Productivity And Ubuntu Adoption

Project management software provider RationalPlan just released their latest version 4.2. Current version offers increased productivity for managers by reducing the time needed to handle resource allocations. At the same time the company decided it is the right moment to expand on Ubuntu market. Hence the application now offers native integration with Ubuntu operating system.

RationalPlan is a fast growing project management solution that recently received the third place at the Project Management Election organized by Capterra.
